In heavy rain, water can prevent the tyres from gripping the road. ABS cannot restore grip while the tyres are aquaplaning. Ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually; do not brake or steer suddenly. ABS helps prevent wheel lock during braking, but no braking system removes the need to reduce speed for the conditions.
