On an ordinary road, if it is safe to do so, place the warning triangle on the road at least 45 metres behind the vehicle on the same side. Take great care when placing or retrieving it. If the narrow road makes a triangle hazardous, do not use it; never put it where it obstructs a footpath, and never use one on a motorway.
