A marker-post arrow points towards the nearest emergency telephone. Current Highway Code guidance uses this local direction information, not an assumed fixed distance between phones. Only use a telephone that you can reach safely away from traffic. If you cannot reach relative safety and exit safely, stay belted with hazards on and call 999 or use the in-vehicle SOS system.
