The arrow on a motorway marker post points towards the nearest emergency telephone. Follow it only when the route is safe and keep well away from the carriageway; never cross a live lane to reach a phone. If you cannot reach relative safety and exit safely, stay belted with hazards on and call 999 or use the in-vehicle SOS system.
