Well-performing road-friendly suspension limits changing wheel loads as a heavy vehicle travels over an uneven surface. TRRL tests found lower dynamic loads for air-sprung trailer bogies than tested steel-leaf bogies on ordinary track sections. Performance depends on design, condition and road profile; this is not a guarantee that air suspension is gentler over every obstacle.
