If an adult is unresponsive, call 999 immediately, ideally on speaker, and assess breathing while the call connects. Gasping is not normal breathing. If unresponsive and not breathing normally, begin CPR and follow the call handler’s guidance. Compress the centre of the chest 5–6 cm at 100–120 compressions per minute, allowing full recoil. Ask someone to bring an AED and follow its prompts. Practical first-aid training teaches the technique; a theory question is not a substitute.
