Exposed bridges can need reduced speeds, lane closures or complete closure in strong winds. National Highways’ Severn procedure includes closing leeward lanes with red X signs before a full closure. Follow current signs and route information; a closed lane is not an ordinary driving or parking lane. Other bridges have their own procedures and thresholds. Do not assume opening trailer curtains overrides a closure.
