Under current Great Britain rules, a car licence obtained from 1 January 1997 permits a trailer up to 3,500 kg MAM under category BE. That does not override the vehicle’s lower towing or combination limits. Get professional training in coupling, checks, reversing and safe towing. Northern Ireland has different licensing rules. Heavier combinations need the appropriate additional licence category.
