Retarding force acts through the driven wheels. On snow or another low-grip surface it can overcome their grip and destabilise the vehicle. Follow the actual manufacturer’s restriction; this exhaust-brake manual prohibits use in slippery conditions. Do not treat staged application as blanket permission for every system or surface.
