The sulphur in fuel contributes to sulphur-dioxide emissions when burned. Lower sulphur content reduces that contribution; it does not make diesel free from pollution or carbon emissions. Use the grade required by the manufacturer. Sulphur dioxide is a gas, not a name for all diesel soot particles.
